The start of this week saw World War Z 2 completely pulled from Paramount’s release schedule, but the film isn’t totally dead just yet…

The Hollywood Reporter has word that David Fincher is “very creatively interested in directing the movie.” This, of course, comes in the wake of Fincher being linked to the film last year. The outlet also claims that Fincher is keen on a version of the sequel that was written by Utopia’s Dennis Kelly. As well as directing Alien 3, The Game, Panic Room, Zodiac, The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl, Fincher worked with Brad Pitt on Se7en and Fight Club.

Originally, World War Z 2 was penciled in for a June 2017 release – as in just four months from now. When Paramount pulled the film completely from its release schedule earlier this week, the future of the sequel was up in the air.

From what’s being said, the studio still has plans to move ahead with the film, with a 2019 or possibly even 2018 release being eyed.

At present, though, the World War Z follow-up is without a director following J.A. Bayona departing the project for the Jurassic World sequel last year. Star of the first film, Brad Pitt, is signed up for World War Z 2, and it was he who last year talked up the hope that David Fincher will be the person tasked with helming the sequel.
