Following the departure of Juan Antonio Bayona, the World War Z sequel has been on the hunt for a director. Well now comes word that the follow-up could be close to landing a new helmer… and it’s certainly a huge name.

According to Variety, David Fincher is believed to be in talks to direct the sequel. Fincher’s most recent movie was 2014’s Gone Girl, and he’s famously worked with World War Z star Brad Pitt on the hugely successful and well-received Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Fincher would be a huge “get” for the film, which saw Bayona leave the project to instead helm Jurassic World 2.

The original plan for the World War Z sequel was to have it in cinemas for a June 9th, 2017 release, although that’s now not going to be the case as filming itself isn’t expected to start until early next year.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
