After starring as Drax the Destroyer in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and currently shooting his role as Mr. Hinx in SPECTRE, now comes word that Dave Bautista is going to be playing The Kurgan in the HIGHLANDER reboot.

The Kurgan role was originally played by genre favourite Clancy Brown in the 1986 original movie. The character is a barbaric warrior who wanted to become the last remaining immortal as he looked to behead Christopher Lambert’s Connor MacLeod.

On the redo, director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan has previously described the key roles as, “We have to find that younger emerging guy, and surround him with a strong Kurgan, and an actor who shines as Ramirez the way Connery did in that film.”

The reboot has yet to cast MacLeod or Ramirez, although Ryan Reynolds was previously attached to take on the lead role of MacLeod until scheduling conflicts caused him to drop out of the picture.

Latino Review is reporting the news on Bautista’s impending casting, although there’s no official word at this stage. As such, treat this as just a strong rumour until some form of confirmation is released, although the outlet is so often so on the money with their breaking news.

Expect more on this as it develops.
