With Charlie Cox having recently revealed that production on Marvel’s The Defenders will start towards the end of this year, it’s now been revealed who’ll be serving as showrunners on this combined hero effort.

Marvel Entertainment and Netflix have officially announced that Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez will be The Defenders’ showrunners. Both Petrie and Ramirez have worked on Marvel’s Daredevil, and they’ll be joined by Oscar-nommed Drew Goddard as an executive producer.

On this news, Netflix’s Cindy Holland said, “Doug and Marco captivated our members around the world with their continuation of the story of Matt Murdock in Marvel’s Daredevil, and we can’t wait to see how they and Drew will introduce the full Defenders team to our global audience.”

Marvel’s Jeph Loeb added, “We’re incredibly excited to be able to bring our four street level heroes together in an epic tale woven by Doug and Marco whose work on Marvel’s Daredevil speaks for itself. They write and produce not only great action and adventure, but also the heart and touch of humour that makes us Marvel. With the inclusion of Drew Goddard, we’ve got a team that’s as formidable as the Defenders themselves.”

Marvel’s The Defenders will bring together Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist. Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil is now on Netflix, Marvel’s Luke Cage will arrive in September, a second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones will debut early next year, with Marvel’s Iron Fist hitting Netflix in the second half of 2017. Marvel’s The Defenders is expected to arrive after these shows.
