Earlier this month came word that Daisy Ridley was being considered to headline a new Tomb Raider movie, and now comes confirmation that the Star Wars actress has indeed had talks for the gig.

Whilst speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the 23-year-old actress, who wowed many as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, revealed that there “have been conversations” about Tomb Raider, before teasing, “I’m waiting for someone to say ‘I want you, let’s do it.’” Continuing to show her eagerness to tackle the project, she then added, “Absolutely, I’m trying to fill up my calender.”

Interestingly, Star Wars co-star John Boyega also spoke to the outlet and admitted that it was he who first told Ridley to go for the Lara Croft role. He said, “I played Tomb Raider the game, it’s a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version. But I texted Daisy and was like, ‘this is you!’ and ‘you need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.’ She could be.”

So, nothing’s official at this stage, but it looks as if everything is falling in to place for Daisy Ridley to take on the role played by Angelina Jolie in 2001’s Tomb Raider and 2003’s Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.

A relaunch-cum-redo of the cinematic Tomb Raider franchise has been in development for a fair few years now, and it looks as if the project is finally looking to move forward. The Wave’s Roar Uthaug is already on board to direct, with a screenplay in place from Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
