With this year’s Logan, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was giving the most fittings of send-offs; a mesmerising, rich, deep tale that was overflowing with emotions as one of cinema’s greatest modern heroes took his final bow. Alongside Jackman was young Dafne Keen as the similarly tortured soul, Laura, and now Logan director James Mangold has talked about possibly seeing Keen returning as X-23 down the line at some point.

At a special screening of Logan Noir – the black and white version of the film that will be included with the home release of the picture – Mangold, Jackman and producer Hutch Parker took part in a Q&A session, in which the inevitable topic of X-23’s future came up.

As per SuperheroHype, Mangold explained, “Anything’s possible. I’ve certainly talked to them about it. I even talked to them about it before we made the movie. I thought she was just such a great character, but with what Dafne did, I think that certainly that’s possible.”

With Jackman’s time as Wolverine now at an end after a whopping nine movies, the X-Men world most definitely has an adamantium-claw-based hole. It may well be best to leave Wolverine and X-23 alone for a little while, but it would most definitely be great to see Dafne Keen don the claws again in the future. Given that the X-23 character has actually taken over the mantle of Wolverine in the comic books following Logan’s death in 2014, there’s definitely ways to bring her back into the fold. And before taking on the Wolvie moniker, Laura was a part of X-Force and the X-Men under her X-23 name.

As ever, expect more on this if and when it develops.

Logan is set for a July 10th release on Blu-ray and DVD here in the UK.
