James Wan’s The Conjuring has already managed to establish its own little unique and special corner in the horror genre, and now it appears that we could well be getting a movie based around the Crooked Man seen in Wan’s The Conjuring 2.

Producer Peter Safran discussed the topic when he recently spoke to Arrow in the Head, teasing, “I think there’s something fascinating in the Crooked Man. Maybe tonally he’s not as grounded as The Conjuring itself is, and maybe that’s why some people felt it wasn’t what they were looking for in The Conjuring, but I suspect a movie with him would be really, really cool. I love the character, just things like the transformation from the dog into the Crooked Man, and the way he walked. I just love what that character can be. We have some interesting ideas for him, so we’ll see.”

In The Conjuring 2, Javier Botet played the eerie figure, and his appearance there certainly caused a mixed reaction amongst fans. As Safran alluded to, some absolutely hated seeing the Crooked Man in that sequel, with many ripping on the apparently awful CGI used for this mythical character. That CGI-driven bashing, though, was completely ridiculous given that Botet actually physically ‘played’ the role for the most part rather than some swanky SFX team merely putting the character together on a computer screen.

Whether we see any more from the Crooked Man in this ever-expanding franchise remains to be seen, but what we do have on the horizon is Annabelle: Creation later this year, The Nun in 2018, and seemingly a third main Conjuring picture being eyed as well.
