To many fans, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the biggest highlights of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. With production currently underway on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the director has recently been discussing the possibility of helming a third Guardians film.

The topic of Guardians 3 came up during a recent Facebook Q&A that Gunn took part. Revealing that he’s already had talks over that, the director said, “Right now, I really am just concerned with doing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I’m not sure what I’m going to do after this. Marvel has talked to me about continuing on. I’m not sure if that’s what I want to do or if that’s not what I want to do. I really just want to make Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 the greatest possible movie that I can, and something that’s as honest and sincere and true as it can possibly be.”

Additionally, Gunn also revealed that production on Guardians 2, which only started three weeks ago, is set to finish in June. The movie will feature the returns of Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel as Groot, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Sean Gunn as Kraglin. In terms of new cast members, there’s Pom Klementieff as Mantis, and unknown roles for Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and the legendary Kurt Russell.

Plot-wise, the movie will largely focus on the mystery of Peter Quill’s father. The role of Star-Lord’s pops is one that was previously being lined up for Kurt Russell, although Russell’s role, as mentioned, is still being kept hush-hush right now.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently set for a May 5th, 2017 release.
