Right, first things first – there be some spoilers in this here news piece. If you’ve yet to watch Season 3 of ARROW or are maybe not quite up to speed with the Emerald Archer-centric show, turn back now. You’ve been warned…

SPOILERS

Ever since Katie Cassidy’s Laurel Lance first appeared in ARROW, many were wondering if she’ll ever take on the Black Canary moniker that Dinah Lance has in the comic book world. Sister Sara would become the show’s Canary during Season 2, although she was sadly (we’re still struggling with it… ) killed off in the closing moments of Season 3’s first episode. Since then, the ‘who killed Sara Lance’ arc has been running through the show each week. Similarly running through the show is the notion that finally Katie Cassidy will be becoming her own hero. A couple of weeks ago, images surfaced showing Cassidy in her own superhero(ine) outfit as Black Canary. Now comes confirmation on when exactly the show’s Laurel Lance will be donning her shiny new duds.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about whether Laurel will be featured as Black Canary in the upcoming ARROW/THE FLASH crossover, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed, “Laurel appears in the ARROW episode. She’s not as present in these episodes, but that is because we’ve been building up to her appearance as the Black Canary. We sort of said that Sara was the Canary, but Laurel is the Black Canary. Episodes 10, 11 and 12 are a three-part trilogy that are about her. And Episode 13, I think I can spoil, I called ‘Canaries.’ For fans of Laurel and for fans of Katie , they’re going to get more than their fill after the winter break.”

So there we have it, it seems like Laurel will be in the background getting her Black Canary training for a little while. Whilst she’s been having some hands-on tutorage from J.R. Ramirez’s Ted Grant, aka Wildcat, could it be that the remaining Lance sister maybe has some tutelage from possibly Nyssa al Ghul or somebody associated with the League of Assassins, much like how Sara did? Given Laurel’s anger and thirst for vengeance, not to mention Ra’s al Ghul’s arrival in Starling City seeming imminent, that would be a perfect way to tie The Demon’s Head into the show.
