With a Coming to America sequel now in development, the project has moved to bring in a director.

Courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, Craig Brewer has been brought in to tackle the follow-up to the 1988 original. Brewer is likely best known for helming Blake Snake Moan and Hustle & Flow, and he takes over the director’s chair from Warm Bodies’ Jonathan Levine.

As it happens, Brewer actually has previous with Coming to America star Eddie Murphy, with Brewer having directed the Dolemite is My Name biographical comedy that’s due to land on Netflix later this year. For what’s tentatively being called simply Coming to America 2, black-ish’s Kenya Barris is on writing duties.

No plot specifics are known just yet on this Coming to America sequel, but we do know that Murphy is due to reprise his role as Prince Akeem from John Landis’ ’88 movie. That first film saw Murphy’s African prince moving to Queens, New York as he looked to find himself a wife.

Expect more on this as we get it.
