Across the disparate divides of geekery, there are factions to be found. One of the most obvious, perhaps, is that fans of heavy metal are often found championing comic books. Indeed, many of the most revered metallers talk lovingly of the funny books or, like Within Temptation and Cradle of Filth, have got involved themselves.

It’s really no wonder then that a comic book has been compiled as a love-letter to the ground-breaking Swiss band Celtic Frost. Titled MORBID TALES! AN ILLUSTRATED TRIBUTE TO CELTIC FROST, the comic is 155 pages long and brought to you by Corpse Flower Records and CV Books. The record company is also set to release an LP of Celtic Frost covers later this year, winning kudos points from the most battle hardened fans.

The comic will be edited by metal artist whizz Mark Rudolph, whose unholy work has adorned LPs for Carcass and Coalesce. It’s very much a collaborative tribute, with illustrations from Rudolh himself, alongside metal royalty including Ravn (1349), Ben Ash (Carcass), Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Fenriz (Darkthrone), Shane Embury (Napalm Death), Greg Macintosh (Paradise Lost), Trevor Peres (Obituary), Attila Csihar (Mayhem) and Chris Reifert (Autopsy) among others.

With a forward from At the Gates’ Tomas Lindberg and Enslaved’s own Ivar Bjornson, it looks set to be a must own for fans of metal and comics. Where do you fall in that Venn diagram?
