Whether you’re a fan of My Chemical Romance or not, the band’s creative direction (on their early albums at least) was always worth a gander. So, musical opinions aside, Gerard Way is a pretty interesting bloke. Way’s award-winning UMBRELLA ACADEMY comic series has all the dark childhood imaginings of Tim Burton’s best, and loaded with pop culture references. It’s fun, witty and twisted.

Despite his comic credentials, many were surprised when CBR announced that Way would be writing a Spider-Man comic which will tie into Marvel’s up and coming SPIDER-VERSE event. The Spider-Verse, as those who go beyond the films will very well know, is a cornucopia of every Spider-Man from across the universe divides, teaming up to take down Morlun. One of the beautiful things about Marvel is the layers upon layers that often make for some great, intertwining stories.

EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE will feature five of these different Spideys. As of yet, the only insight into Way’s take is ‘What or who is SP//dr’. Jake Wyatt, of Ms Marvel and the Indescribable Hulk, will be pencilling the upcoming issue 5.

If Way’s involvement wasn’t enough to shock you, than maybe Gwen Stacy instead of Peter Parker being Spidey in EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE #2 will. While we’ve had Spider-Woman for decades, it’ll be fascinating to read Stacey cracking wise and saving folks. So, what do you make of all this?

EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE #5 is expected in October.
