The Dying Breed

Fan funding is one of the most exciting possibilities of the digital age, the antithesis to the incessant trolling and online bullying. Crowd sourcing has indeed ushered in a renaissance in video games, films, comics etc.

Following the successful funding of the first issues of his comic series THE DYING BREED, creator Eric “EJ” Cedric is getting $1500/£880 together to cover the printing, publishing and distribution costs of the second issue of his burgeoning series.

The series follows the exploits of five characters based in North America, living, as the title suggests, dying breed lifestyles; content until they’re all diagnosed with mysterious and terminal illnesses. Illness brings the central characters together after realising the source of their condition is caused by the New Day Corporation and its owners, The Brothers.

While there’s subtext aplenty, from culture clashes to the traditional stamped out by the modern, and generation gaps it’s main concerns are, as Cedric puts: it ‘Covering contemporary issues of environmental poisoning, big pharm, agriculture via frankencrops and the Oligarchy arising from the Corpratacracy, THE DYING BREED brings new heroes to fight what the little man in the fields, streets and factories cannot’.

After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which put an end to his love of flying, Cedric is keen to make a difference with THE DYING BREED. At the time of publication, the Indiegogo campaign had 16 days left with $382 raised.
