Rumours concerning the second series of TRUE DETECTIVE have been fizzing for several months now, and today carries some really promising casting news. Irish icon and maybe Bruges’ least favourite tourist, Colin Farrell, has confirmed that he will appear in HBO’s acclaimed property. Its great to see the network continuing their relationship with unique actors; which has included Steve Buscemi, Michael Shannon and Stephen Graham in BOARDWALK EMPIRE, plus obviously Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the first incarnation of TRUE DETECTIVE.

Created and written by Nic Pizzolatto; the show merges crime and neo-noir sensibilities with a penetrating sense of Southern grunge, something that audiences really grew to appreciate over it’s initial 8-episode stretch. The second series is reportedly going to be shot within Los Angeles, which moves the production away from the original Louisiana setting, and this could take up to five months to shoot.

Farrell is a thoroughly fascinating addition to Pizzolatto’s troubling world, who could yet be joined by Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams or Elisabeth Moss on the cast sheet. As previously mentioned, the rumour engine is currently working at full throttle and this piece of news may spark further confirmations in weeks to come.
