As part of Disney’s ‘Star Wars Stories’ outings, formerly known as Star Wars Anthology Movies, is to be a Han Solo-centric movie that looks at the younger Han and how he became the scoundrel we were introduced to in Mos Eisley back in 1977. Well now comes word that the iconic smuggler will be joined by Chewbacca when his own movie arrives in 2018.

This news comes courtesy of Disney CEO Bob Iger, who revealed at Deutsche Bank’s 24th Annual Media, Internet and Telecom Conference that the Solo-focussed movie will be “an origin story about Han Solo and Chewie.”

Where Chewie is concerned, speculation is that The Force Awakens’ Joonas Suotamo will be back to play everyone’s favourite walking carpet – the Finland native worked as Peter Mayhew’s double in that film. As for the young Han, a whole host of names have tested for that particular gig, with the likes of Scott Eastwood, Dave Franco, Ansel Elgort, Emory Cohen, Black Jenner, Logan Lerman, Jack Reynor, Miles Teller, and Chandler Riggs just some of the names believed to be in the frame.

The LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller will be directing the yet-to-be-titled Star Wars Story effort, with Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan having already penned the tale. At present, the film is set for a May 25th, 2018 release, marking it as the second Star Wars Story movie after Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, itself set for release this coming December.
