A Kickstarter is underway for practical effects horror movie Bridal Fever, the directorial debut of Scottish makeup artist Hayley Tinline. She is no stranger to the world of horror, having created the effects for a number of indie films including Lawrie Brewster’s fantastic Lord of Tears (aka Owlman) and the upcoming The Unkindness of Ravens, and with Bridal Fever hopes to apply her skills in creating a new horror icon.

The pitch reads thus:

“Bridal Fever focuses on the story of Lisa, a beautiful but troubled young woman who is plagued by cruel memories of a monstrous childhood. Now married, Lisa thinks she’s finally escaped the seething rage trapped within her until the moment she witnesses the love of her life cheating with a naive teen girl, a mistake he may quite literally pay for with his life.

The film follows husband Stuart, his lover and their friends as they explore the ruins of an old children’s hospital. However, they are not alone, and soon find themselves fleeing for their lives against a reign of unparalleled violence and mayhem. One by one the friends are pursued, forced to fight for their survival against an array of horrors dished out by our bloodthirsty bride.

Expect wild dogs unleashed from chains, furious torture instruments applied to the most uncomfortable of places, deadly chases and the most horrifying and twisted imprisonment you’ll have witnessed on film! Never have your nether regions felt more vulnerable!”

Hell hath no fury indeed…

The film stars at-model, cosplayer and mixed martial artist Nicolette McKeown in the central role as The Evil Bride (“the Candyman of past lovers”), a killer whose favourite target is the “dangly part of the male anatomy.” From this we can likely infer the film will offer a subversion of typically established gender roles in horror movies and may make certain viewers feel extremely uncomfortable.

With filming due to start next month and having already raised most of the required funds herself, Tinline has only turned to Kickstarter for a modest sum to top off the financing. Check out the campaign page here.
