One of the most interesting names in genre these days is Neill Blomkamp. Sure, he may not have quite hit the heights of his masterful, charming District 9 with the so-so Elysium and Chappie, but he’s one of those guys who has a head full of ideas, of which you can’t help but feel there’s a moment of genius waiting around the corner.

So with that said, seeing Blomkamp launch Oat Studios earlier this year was something that most certainly piqued our interest. Having delivered some pretty impressive shorts already, he’s now released his latest short effort, Gdansk. And it’s got to be said, it’s rather great. Well, in a totally brutal way.

Check it out for yourself in the player below:

Gdansk is the first of several shorts to be based around medieval giants, and Blomkamp drew inspiration from the work of illustrator Jakub Różalski for this particular 2-minute effort.

Now, if only we could get that on-off-possibly-on-again Alien movie which Blomkamp has openly discussed over the past year or two…
