This year’s Celluloid
Screams: Sheffield Horror Film Festival (Showroom Cinema, Sheffield, October
23rd – 25th) has announced its full programme. Headlining are guests of honour Claudio
Simonetti’s GOBLIN performing live to Dario Argento’s 1975 classic Profondo
Rosso (at Sheffield Hallam University, October 25th). As part of their tour to
mark the film’s 40th anniversary (and the release of a new version of the
iconic soundtrack by Rustblade Records), this event is expected to sell out
quickly so get tickets while you can.

The rest of the line-up includes the Celluloid Screams Classic All-Nighter on Saturday, October 24th:
Wes Craven’s original Nightmare on Elm
Street (1984)
enjoys a tribute screening following the recent sad passing
of the great man; Don Coscarelli’s Phantasm
(1979)
screens from an original 35mm print, as does Tobe Hooper’s
underrated The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
(1986)
; followed by Stuart Gordon’s delirious Reanimator (1985).

New films include the UK premiere of identity theft thriller
Goodnight Mommy (Austria, 2014);
Takashi Miike’s mindboggling mash-up of Japanese gangster lore and bloodsucking
vampires, Yakuza Apocalypse (Japan,
2015)
; Perry Blackshear’s paranoid shape-shifter opus They Look Like People (USA, 2015); scathing LA fashion scene satire
Excess Flesh (USA, 2015); babysitter
nightmare Emelie (USA, 2015);
Australian apocalypse drama, These Final
Hours (2013)
; Spain’s dark look at necrophilia and celebrity obsession, The Corpse of Anna Fritz (2015);
metalhead demon fantasy, Deathgasm (New
Zealand, 2015)
; and Karyn Kusama’s intriguing The Invitation (USA, 2015), which opens this year’s festival.

And, as usual, there’s the Celluloid Screams secret film
waiting in the wings…
