The cast for Fox’s upcoming Exorcist show is starting to come together.

Deadline is reporting that the series, which is known simply as The Exorcist, will be headlined by Sense8’s Alfonso Herrera and House of Cards’ Ben Daniels. Herrera will be playing Father Thomas Ortega, a warm and compassionate leader of a small church, whilst Daniels is on board as Father Marcus Lang, an intense member of the clergy who carries out exorcisms. The two will come together to tackle a horrific possession case.

Inspired by William Blatty’s classic 1971 book, The Lazarus Effect’s Jeremy Slater has penned The Exorcist, which will be directed by Rupert Wyatt. The series is being described as a modern reinvention of Blatty’s work, which itself was famously adapted by William Friedkin for 1973’s The Exorcist, a movie regularly referred to by many as the scariest film of all time.

At the centre of this new show will be Brianne Howley’s Charlotte, who has had a serious accident and has since remained isolated in her room. To bring it down to basics, she’s basically going to be the “Regan” of the series. Also on board is Hannah Kasulka as Casey, the concerned sister of Charlotte.

As ever, expect more on The Exorcist as it develops.
