Mare of Easttown rising star Cailee Spaeny is in talks to lead the next Alien movie, which hails from Don’t Breathe and Texas Chainsaw Massacre filmmaker Fede Alvarez.

Though plot details are being kept firmly inside someone’s chest cavity, the feature will reportedly be unconnected to the franchise’s previous entries. Ridley Scott, who directed the original 1979 science fiction horror and returned for two further instalments (Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, both prequel films that attempted to tell the origin of the Xenomorphs), will produce via his Scott Free banner. The upcoming feature project will be the seventh Alien, and is intended to reboot the beloved sci-fi horror franchise. And though we don’t know who she’ll be playing, Cailee Spaeny’s casting suggests the film will continue the franchise’s tradition of pitting a strong female lead against the face-hugging monsters.

The young actress previously starred in the lead role for Blumhouse’s horror reboot The Craft: Legacy; she also starred opposite Zoe Lister-Jones in the excellent apocalyptic comedy How It Ends, and in Alex Garland’s acclaimed sci-fi mini series Devs. Cailee Spaeny is currently filming on Priscilla, a biopic of Elvis Presley’s one-time wife Priscilla Ann Presley, which is being directed by Sofia Coppola.
