Amazon has secured the creative team for its Butch & Sundance adaptation of the 1969 western classic, a series which has Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among ThievesRegé-Jean Page and Top Gun: Mavericks Glen Powell in talks to star. News comes that Alex Metcalf will serve as showrunner, alongside series creators Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo as co-showrunners (the duo who wrote Marvel’s Eternals). Metcalf has previously written on shows such as the Amy Adams-starring Sharp Objects and faux-reality show UnReal. Joe Russo and Anthony Russo are also exec producing the series.

Butch & Sundance, which landed a series order last year, is set in an alternate version of America where legendary outlaws Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid take on their biggest heist yet – this time with nothing less than the fate of the world hanging in the balance. It’s expected that Page will play Cassidy and Powell will portray Sundance.

Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, two real American Old West outlaws, were most famously portrayed by Paul Newman and Robert Redford, respectively, in the 1969 film from George Roy Hill. The film is considered a classic and has been ranked by the American Film Institute as one of the greatest American films ever made.
