In one of those ‘yeah, we’ve kinda already known this for a while’ stories, 20th Century Fox has finally confirmed that director Bryan Singer will be returning to helm X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. This will be singer’s fourth time at directing an X-movie, having headed up X-MEN, X2 and this year’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. The follow-up to DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is currently set for a May 27th, 2016 release.

Additionally, writer Simon Kinberg spoke to Yahoo about whether the likes of Bishop or Kitty Pryde will feature in APOCALYPSE. His response was, “The X-Men film that we’re working on now as everybody knows is X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and that really follows the stories of the FIRST CLASS X-Men. Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, many others of that generation of X-Men. So, in future X-Men films? Perhaps. But in APOCALYPSE, it will really be the continuation of the ‘past’ of DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.”

In terms of plot, this latest X-film is said to be pulling heavily from the classic AGE OF APOCALYPSE comic book arc, which is essentially a desolate world that has the big, bad Apocalypse overseeing all. The upcoming movie has already been compared to a Roland Emmerich movie in terms of its scope and carnage, so that should give you an idea of what to expect.
