“Gore. Sex. Masochism. Bondage. Flaying. Sadism. Eighties-influenced British slasher where nothing is as it seems.” That’s the early word on the Kickstarter-funded Clownface, and boy does it have our attention here at Moonbase Alpha!

To give a little prefix, one of our favourite horror finds of recent years has been Hellbound Media and their deliciously twisted genre-spanning output that features the likes of Slaughterhouse Farm, The Disease and Mandy the Monster Hunter. Now, Hellbound have teamed with Great Escape Films to produce their first full feature film, with Alex Bourne – who cut his teeth on My Bloody Banjo and The House of Screaming Death – in the director’s chair and Mark Adams – another My Bloody Banjo alum – producing. With the project having recently launched a Kickstarter campaign, you can help support Clownface’s production by heading here. And trust us, some of the perks on offer sound absolutely fantastic!

Just to up the terror levels a tad, here’s an early preview of the what lies ahead for those brave enough to tackle Clownface:

You can find the official press release on Clownface below:

In the British Midlands an urban legend stalks the residents of a suburban town; an individual with no known identity beyond the grinning mask of flesh he wears…

CLOWNFACE offers a combination of psychological terror and eighties-influenced slasher carnage. Exploring themes of sadomasochistic desire, revenge and trauma, CLOWNFACE is a horror film that draws from both dramatic thrillers and brutal slasher movies, to bring you a unique and unsettling experience. Filming in and around Birmingham in the UK, CLOWNFACE draws on wealth of local and national talent to bring its tale of terror to life.

Starring in the film is Hannah Douglas (U Want Me 2 Kill Him), Dani Tonks (Parasitic Twin), Richard Bucker (The House of Screaming Death & former UK Olympic Athlete), Thomas Loone (Wuthering Heights) and Philip Bailey (Doctor Who & Carnival of Sorrows) as Clownface himself.

Plot Summary:

No one talks about the disappearances. People leave. Accidents happen. But the legends are true, and this town is home to Clownface and he’s ready for his next performance.

A year after the abduction of her friend Zoe, Jenna Carter is trying to put her life back together. But the arrival of Owen Reynolds, whose family were slaughtered tens years earlier, brings up the past. Owen is certain that Clownface is real, and has kept Zoe prisoner, the latest subject of the killers fascination with finding the perfect flesh.

Jenna, Owen and Zoe must struggle for survival, and to hold onto their own identifies, as they are stalked by the sadistic and brutal Clownface.

CLOWNFACE is being produced by Hellbound Media, in association with Great Escape Films. Hellbound Media have focused on creating horror comics in the UK for the last six years, with successful titles such as the critically acclaimed “Slaughterhouse Farm” and the award-nominated “The Disease”. The feature film debut for Hellbound Media, CLOWNFACE, is produced by Mark Adams (My Bloody Banjo, Carnival of Sorrows) and directed by Alex Bourne (The House of Screaming Death).

Granted, there are plentiful crowdfunding campaigns out there right now, but Clownface most definitely stands out from the pack. And let’s face it, you had us at “Gore. Sex. Masochism. Bondage. Flaying. Sadism. Eighties-influenced British slasher where nothing is as it seems.”
