With the Marvel Cinematic Universe still yet to find its Captain Marvel, now comes word that Marvel Studios and Disney may be close to landing their Carol Danvers.

Variety is reporting that Oscar winner Brie Larson is in early talks for the gig, with the Room actress the current choice of the powers-that-be for the Danvers role. Larson is no stranger to genre fans, with her having played Envy Adams in Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

As for Carol Danvers, previous names linked to the role include Katee Sackhoff, Ronda Rousey and even Chloe Grace Moretz. Now it looks as if Brie Larson is the name settled on for the part, with the character expected to debut in May 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War Part I before then getting his own March 2019 movie.

In the comic book realm, Danvers debuted in 1968 as part of the US air force. Thanks to an explosion of Kree tech, she’d become Ms. Marvel and then decades later take on the mantle of Captain Marvel. Powers-wise, Danvers has the ability of flight, super-strength, and can fire energy blasts from her hands.

Captain Marvel has yet to find a director, although Guardians of the Galaxy’s Nicole Perlman and Inside Out’s Meg LeFauve are currently working on the screenplay for the film.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
