Upcoming horror movie Tales From the Dark Zone has brought in the legendary Bret “The Hitman” Hart.

The film itself, which will be directed by Barry J. Gillis, is described as following “a Medical Examiner who imagines how victims of a horrible car crash may have lived their lives.” Hart’s role in the movie is that of “Private Investigator Tom Jenkings, a one man wrecking crew who doesn’t always play by all of the rules.”

The Hitman is the latest wrestling name to delve into the murky depths of horror, following the likes of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper in They Live, Mark Henry in Incarnate, Kane in See No Evil and See No Evil 2, and Seth Rollins for the recently-wrapped Temple and the god-awful Sharknado 4 (sorry Seth, we love ya but that movie was just one turd too many in that franchise).

To many a savvy wrestling fan, Bret Hart is simply the greatest wrestler to ever lace up a pair of boots. Whether it was as part of the legendary Hart Foundation tag team (and later faction) or as a singles competitor who became a 5-time then-WWF World Heavyweight Champion, The Hitman wasn’t nicknamed The Excellence of Execution for nothing. In something that’s a dying breed at times these days, Hart made you believe that every minute and move of in-ring action you were watching was real. Additionally, he had the unique knack of making whatever he was involved in seem like the most important thing on whatever wrestling show he was on. Bret called himself The Best There Is, The Best There Was, and The Best There Ever Will Be, and there really are only a handful of performers who could even think about challenging Bret for that title.

In terms of acting experience, Hart has appeared in several TV movies and in episodes of various TV shows over the years, most notably landing a recurring role in Lonesome Dove back in the mid-’90s.

In Tales From the Dark Zone, the now-retired grappler will be joined by Kim Sonderholm, who will play the creepy Medical Examiner at the centre of the story.

The movie is expected to be released in the second half of next year.
