One of the biggest questions out there in the world of genre right now is who is going to land the part of badass metal-armed, time-travelling son of Cyclops, Cable in Deadpool 2. Well, now comes an update on one big name being ruled out.

It was only last month that Man of Steel’s Michael Shannon was believed to be in the frame for the role, and he joined the likes of Stephen Lang, Kyle Chandler, David Harbour, Liam Neeson, Russell Crowe and Brad Pitt as being rumoured for the gig.

Now, though, director David Leitch has moved to rule out Pitt – despite concept art showing the actor as the fan favourite character – explaining to ComicBook.com, “We had a great meeting with Brad, he was incredibly interested in the property. Things didn’t work out schedule-wise. He’s a fan, and we love him, and I think he would’ve made an amazing Cable.”

So, does that mean Michael Shannon is now the clear favourite for the Cable role or will someone else step up and nab the part alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth.

As well as introducing Cable to the big screen, Deadpool 2 will also introduce another badass merc mutant, Domino, already confirmed to be played by Atlanta’s Zazie Beetz.

Expect to be hearing more on the Cable situation and any further Deadpool 2 developments as we get it.
