For several months now, there’s been talk of Greg Berlanti working on a big screen outing for DC’s Booster Gold. Well now comes an interesting update on the project.
Given how Warner Brothers’ DCEU has seen Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad already, and with Wonder Woman, Justice League, The Flash, Aquaman, Shazam, Cyborg and Green Lantern Corps already confirmed, not to mention a Ben Affleck-helmed Batman movie and seemingly a Man of Steel 2, many were wondering where Booster Gold would come into the fold. According to Berlanti, though, the cocksure hero from the future won’t be a part of the larger DC Extended Universe.
Speaking to Vulture, Berlanti revealed, “As of right now we have no connective tissue to those worlds. It’d be a separate thing.”
Berlanti is currently set to produce the Booster Gold picture, although he’s previously teased that he’d like to direct the movie should the chance arise. To many fans, he’ll be familiar for executive producing shows such as Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. As for the Booster Gold flick, Zack Stentz, who co-wrote the likes of X-Men: First Class, Thor and the Kevin Smith-directed Season 2 episode of The Flash, has already put together a screenplay for the film. Previous reports even suggested that the effort could be a “buddy cop” sort of adventure, with Booster being joined by Blue Beetle.
For those not familiar with Booster Gold, Booster has been a long-time fan favourite character since he was created by Dan Jurgens back in 1986. Initially living in the 25th century, Michael Jon Carter travels back in time to the present day where he uses his knowledge of future technology to become a cocky, sponsor-adorned, insta-smiling hero.
