Strange Loves

We at Starburst pay a keen interest to the rise and fall of book trends, and though the fashion for producing novels about young girls in love with supernatural creatures continues, (blame Twilight), it hasn’t stopped the return of another odd little subgenre, the choose your own adventure book. With e-books becoming more and more common, it was perhaps inevitable that the game-book would experience resurgence. But we are slightly surprised that Australian electronic adventure game-book publisher Tin Man Games has announced a series of books aimed squarely at the hearts of those who like their romance novels with fangs.

The Strange Loves series launches with three books; Vampire Boyfriends, (which features everyone’s favourite parasites), Hex Boyfriends (witchcraft and the single girl) and Two Faced Boyfriends (Shape shifters, apparently, not politicians. The latter would be too terrifying). These will be exclusively in an ‘app’ format, so if you don’t own an iPad, iPhone or an Android phone you’re probably out of luck. It’s certainly an unexplored market, and firmly aimed at the younger generation. Could it be the next big thing? Could it even lead to a horde of Twilight groupies playing Warlock of Firetop Mountain? Time will tell.
