Stephen King Book News

The uninitiated may think of Stephen King simply as a horror writer, but, as any fan will tell you, he’s practically become a genre in his own right. Having dipped his pen into fantasy and sci-fi he has, most recently, delved into the seedy world of the hard-boiled detective.

Alongside the detective novel, MR MERCEDES, he’s also releasing REVIVAL, a return to horror. While ‘return to…’ is never the most reassuring phrase, King’s track record says it all.

The book focusses on a preacher and a small-time rock star. The author’s official website said of the book: “In a small New England town, over half a century ago, a shadow falls over a small boy playing with his toy soldiers. Jamie Morton looks up to see a striking man, the new minister. Charles Jacobs, along with his beautiful wife, will transform the local church… When tragedy strikes the Jacobs family, this charismatic preacher curses God, mocks all religious belief, and is banished from the shocked town. Jamie has demons of his own… In his mid-’30s – addicted to heroin, stranded, desperate – Jamie meets Charles Jacobs again, with profound consequences for both men. Their bond becomes a pact beyond even the Devil’s devising, and Jamie discovers that revival has many meanings.”

Having already published two novels last year (DR SLEEP and the smaller JOYLAND) King isn’t showing any signs of slowing down as he moves closer to 70. It’s encouraging to see a writer clearly enjoying himself, and his work effort is second to none.

Both novels will be released simultaneously on November 11th via Hodder & Stoughton in the UK.
