It’s sad to think that even the most prolific writing careers must come to an end but since Terry Pratchett was diagnosed with a form of Alzheimers’ Disease, it’s nice to know that he’s been making preparations for the time when he just can’t continue with the stories for one reason or another.

Those preparations consist of roping in his daughter, Rhianna Pratchett, to write new books, as revealed in an interview in this week’s New Statesman. In the meantime, she’s currently staying within the Discworld universe that she’s been part of since she was a small girl – she’s co-writing The Watch series for her father’s production company, Narrativia.

She’s already an established writer in her own right, having worked for the Guardian and PC Zone as well as doing a lot of work in video game writing and localisation.

How well this will turn out remains to be seen, and of course Terry’s not stopping yet – the prevailing attitude seems to be that as long as he can write, he will. And who knows? This could lead into a generation of Discworld books under the Pratchett name.
