If you like your Hitchcock then you’re going to want this one. Fourteen of his movies are coming to Blue-ray in Universal’s Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection on the 5th November, but if you’re a true Hitch’ obsessive (or you’ve just got too much money on your hands) then you’re going to want the ‘Super Premium Box Set’. Like the standard set, it contains Psycho, The Birds, Vertigo, Rear Window, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Marnie, Saboteur, Shadow of a Doubt, Rope, The Trouble with Harry, Torn Curtain, Topaz, Frenzy, and Family Plot, but for your £150 (as opposed to £100 for the normal box) you get a 16-page hardback book, storyboards, costume sketches, correspondence (really? – what kind of correspondence?), photos, art work and one of Norman Bates’s stuffed owls. OK, we made the last one up, but it’s got everything else so why not an owl? We’re just asking…

What the more eagle-eyed of you would have noticed is that Hitch’ made rather more than 14 movies and quite a few of them could be described as ‘masterpieces’. But, inconveniently, he made them for many studios so this lot could probably be better described as ‘Hitchcock’s Best Universal Movies’. If Dial M for Murder is more your kind of thing, you’ll have to wait for Warner Bros. to celebrate their 100th anniversary.

The Premium Set will only be available for a short time (until they sell out, one assumes) so if you want masterful suspense, more blondes than you can wave a stick at, and 15 hours(!) of extras then you’d best be nice to anyone who might spend far too much on you at Christmas.
