Having been known as either Blade Runner 2 or simply ‘the Blade Runner sequel’ up until now, the follow-up to Ridley Scott’s iconic 1982 movie has finally been given an official title.

From this day forward, the sequel to Blade Runner will be known as Blade Runner 2049. Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures announced the title today.

No plot details are known on the film at this stage, although it will be set several decades after Scott’s original movie. Harrison Ford is back as Rick Deckard, whilst there are unknown roles for Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carli Juri, Mackenzie Davis, Barkhad Abdi, David Dastmalchian, Lennie James, and Hiam Abbass.

To be directed by Sicario and Prisoners’ Denis Villeneuve, Blade Runner 2049 is currently set for an October 6th, 2017 release.
