BLADE RUNNER 2099 Gets Series Order, Ridley Scott Producing

The Blade Runner universe is expanding further into the small screen as Amazon Studios gives Blade Runner 2099 the go-ahead. What's even more exciting is that Ridley 'I'm Never Retiring' Scott, who directed the original 1982 Blade Runner movie, is aboard to executive produce the live-action limited series.

The upcoming project is a follow-up to Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049, which starred Ryan Gosling as K and saw Harrison Ford return to the role of Rick Deckard. Shining Girls creator Silka Luisa is writing and executive producing the series, but there's still no word on who might star or direct.

“The original Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time, and we’re excited to introduce Blade Runner 2099 to our global Prime Video customers,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios.

“We are honoured to be able to present this continuation of the Blade Runner franchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa, Blade Runner 2099 will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors.”

Also part of the franchise, Blade Runner: Black Lotus is an anime series that debuted late last year and centres on a female replicant, voiced in English by Jessica Henwick.
