With a first look at the titular hero released earlier this year, The CW has moved to confirm Black Lightning for a full season order.

This comes on the heels of the network previously ordering new seasons for Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. And as well as Black Lightning getting a season order, this new announcement also sees The CW confirm a fourth season for iZombie and a fifth season for The Originals.

In Black Lightning, Hart of Dixie’s Cress Williams is playing the titular DC Comics hero. Very little other news is known on the show at this stage, but we do know that Greg Berlanti, Salim Akil, Mara Brock and Sarah Schechter are serving as executive producers on the series.

The Black Lightning character debuted back in 1977, with Jefferson Pierce being a former Olympic athlete who was born with the abilities to create and manipulate electricity and electromagnetic fields. Returning to his home in Metropolis’ Suicide Slum later in life, Pierce became the principal of a local high school. When one of his pupils is killed by a gang, he decides to start using his powers to protect the neighbourhood and beyond as Black Lightning. So impressive and popular was the hero, he would later go on to be a member of the Justice League and the Outsiders.
