With excitement currently high for The CW’s next new superhero show, Black Lightning, that series has moved to confirm two more new cast members.

Fresh from San Diego Comic-Con, it’s been confirmed that James Remar and Damon Gupton have joined the show. Remar, of course, will be familiar to genre fans for the likes of The Warriors, Dexter and Django Unchained, while Gupton has been seen in the mesmerizing Bates Motel and Whiplash.

In Black Lightning, Remar is playing Peter Gambi, a character described as “the oldest friend of Jefferson Pierce. Gambi is Jefferson’s father figure, mentor and ‘tailor’. His history with Jefferson goes back farther and deeper than anyone knows, and Gambi’s role in Jefferson’s life will become a painful window into the past that will affect the future of their relationship forever.”

As for Gupton’s role, he’ll be playing Inspector Henderson, labelled as ”a veteran officer of the law who is now the highest-ranking detective on the force. His role in the community puts him at odds with Black Lightning, but they soon become unlikely allies.”

With Cress Williams in the titular role, Black Lightning is set for a to-be-confirmed 2018 premiere.
