With The Punisher now confirmed for Season 2 of Marvel’s Netflix-exclusive Daredevil, further details are starting to emerge on the Guardian Devil’s 2016 return.

Latino Review, courtesy of multiple outlets, is reporting that the main season-long arc of Daredevil Season 2 will revolve around Daredevil vs. The Punisher. Pretty damn cool, right? As we know, The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal has already been cast as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher. In addition to Punisher, the second season will also heavily feature long-standing Daredevil comic book alumni Bullseye and Elektra. Both of these characters were ever-so-briefly teased in the first season of the show, so it comes as no major surprise to see that they’ll be stepping out of the shadows for Season 2.

On the Bullseye front, there was a story a month or so back about Jason Statham having talks for the role. That was apparently true, although talks have completely ceased and The Stath is now off the table. Regardless, Bullseye is still very much in the sights of the show, although it’s not quite clear how prominent his story will be here – as in, the main focus of the second season is supposedly to centre on Daredevil vs. Punisher. Of course, Frank Castle is no straight-up villain, more an anti-hero, and so there’s a fair old chance that the plight of Hornhead and Castle will be the familiar tear-up/team-up formula that will also be seen in next year’s Batman v Superman. It could very well be that the threat of Bullseye is what ends up with the two heroes (and we lose that term loosely in regards to Frank) finally getting on the same page.

With IGN confirming that Elektra will definitely be a part of Season 2, it could very well be that she ties into the whole Daredevil/Punisher/Bullseye conundrum. After all, in comic book lore it’s Bullseye who kills Elektra, who as well as being a master assassin is a love interest of Matt Murdock’s. That may or may not happen here, but it would certainly be a catalyst to maybe get Matt and Frank working together.

And in some even more Daredevil news, Latino Review is also reporting that Vincent Piazza, best known to most for his brilliant turn as Lucky Luciano in Boardwalk Empire, is being lined up for a role in the show’s second season. He’s not signed on as of yet and the role in question is unknown at this stage, but rumours suggest that he could be being lined up to play a mob boss sort or possibly even the aforementioned Bullseye.

Daredevil Season 2 is certainly coming together nicely, and if it’s anything like the first season then we cannot wait to see what lies ahead for the Guardian Devil.

Season 2 of Daredevil is set to hit Netflix next year.
