Ben Affleck to Direct THE BATMAN?

Treat this as purely a rumour now, but it looks as if Ben Affleck could very well be helming the next Batman solo movie.

Various outlets are reporting the story, which seems to have originated from the usually reliable Latino Review, which claims Affleck will star and direct the next Batman film. At this stage it’s still believed that the Caped Crusader’s first solo film in the DC Cinematic Universe will be called simply The Batman, with reports earlier this year claiming that the film would be arriving in 2020. That’s now changed a little as the current word on the project is that it will actually be released in November 2018.

Affleck, of course, is somebody who has received praise from all quarters for his directing work on Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo. There was even talk at one point of him directing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before Zack Snyder was given the gig.

Before any solo outings for the World’s Greatest Detective, Affleck’s Dark Knight will make his DCCU debut when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is released on March 25th, 2016. As well as that film, the goddamn Batman will also be a part of Snyder’s two confirmed Justice League movies, the first of which is set for a 2017 release.

As mentioned, treat this purely as a rumour for now. With San Diego Comic-Con taking place next month, we could very well hear something more concrete on The Batman then. Chris Terrio has been tasked with penning the script for a new Batman movie so it’s obviously something that Warner Brothers is keen to start moving forward with.
