Rumours started to circle midway through last year that Ben Affleck could very well direct an upcoming Batman movie, and today sees said rumours rear their head once more.

When asked about the possibility by USA Today, Affleck teased, “I’ll just say, going through the process I would never have imagined that I could or would direct a movie like this and seeing what he did and watching him every day, I got really inspired by that and by seeing the scope on which he was telling the story, by seeing what he was able to do with this kind of mythic story on a grand scale.”

Of course, this is far from confirmation of Affleck helming his own Bat-flick, but it again adds fuel to the fire.

Affleck’s Caped Crusader will make his big screen bow in this year’s Batman v Superman before cameoing in Suicide Squad and then going on to play a pivotal role in Snyder’s two-part Justice League adventure. A solo Batman movie has still yet to be confirmed by Warner Brothers, although it’s believed that there could well be a plan already in place for up to three Dark Knight-based movies, with the rumoured title for the first film simply being The Batman. Affleck has won huge praise for his directorial work to date – Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo – and given his affinity towards Batman, he’d be a perfect fit to helm any and all cinematic outings for the World’s Greatest Detective, so here’s hoping that something more concrete comes from these regular rumours of the actor-cum-director doing more than just starring in a Batman solo movie.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in cinemas on March 25th.
