Jenna Ortega is reportedly in talks to collaborate with Tim Burton once again on Beetlejuice 2, after the two worked together on Netflix’s Wednesday series.

Deadline also reports that Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are expected to reprise their roles from the original; Ortega would play the daughter of Lydia, Ryder’s character in the 1988 film. Beetlejuice told the story of a recently deceased couple (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) who, as ghosts haunting their former home, contact Betelgeuse (pronounced Beetlejuice), an obnoxious and devious “bio-exorcist” from the Netherworld, to scare away the house’s new inhabitants. Said inhabitants are the Deetz family, of which Lydia is the young daughter.

There is no information on what plot Beetlejuice 2 might follow, nor who else might be joining the production. However, with filming on the sequel due to begin in late May or early June in London, fans can expect further updates very soon.

Should the deal with Ortega be finalised, Beetlejuice 2 would further establish the young actress as a cult genre queen, with the rebooted Scream franchise and Wednesday already in her back pocket. Wednesday has already been confirmed to return for a second season, though filming has not yet begun.
