The live-action Ghost in the Shell remake has added Beat Takeshi to its ranks.

Cinema Today and Anime News Network broke the story, with the Battle Royale, Johnny Mnemonic and Zatoichi actor signed on to play Public Security Section 9 founder Daisuke Aramaki. Takeshi joins a cast that currently includes Scarlett Johansson, Michael Pitt, Sam Riley, and Pilou Asbaek.

Ghost in the Shell began life as a 1989 manga from Masmune Shirow, centering on a bizarre and complex future that see an ops unit tackling technology-related crime. It’s since spawned multiple animated series, films and comic books over the years, gaining a huge cult following in the process.

For this upcoming live-action effort, Rupert Sanders is to direct from a Jonathan Herman screenplay.

At present, Ghost in the Shell is set for a March 31st, 2017 release.
