To many of us genre fans, one of the greatest shows of recent years has been A&E’s Bates Motel. Sure, we may have been a little concerned at the prospect of rehashing one of horror’s most iconic figures in Norman Bates, but the series quickly won us over on its way to becoming one of TV’s must-see shows. Well, now comes an update on the series’ return for its fifth and final season.

As confirmed by Bloody Disgusting, Bates Motel will premiere its fifth season on February 20th, meaning we’ve only got to wait six weeks or so until Freddie Highmore’s Norman takes further ominous steps towards becoming the Norman Bates that we were all introduced to decades ago in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.

With the way that Season 4 of Bates Motel ended, the show took a giant step towards its ultimate endgame and where we all deep down know where this is going to end up. Still, expect to see the fabulous Vera Farmiga back as Norma Bates in the final season, and it’s also previously been confirmed that Rihanna – yes, her with a penchant for a good umbrella-ella-ella – will be playing Marion Crane when the show returns. Marion Crane, of course, was the character famously played by Janet Leigh in Hitchcock’s original movie, and her shower scene is one of the most famous in cinema history.

On the addition of the Marion Crane character, executive producer Carlton Cuse told EW, “We are going to meet Marion Crane, but what we don’t want to do is create the impression that we’re redoing the movie because we’re not at all. She’s a very different person in the movie and her story plays out in a different way.”

At this stage, there’s been no confirmed premiere date set for Season 5 in the UK, but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long before we can check in once again with Bates Motel.
