With principal photography due to start on the Blade Runner sequel next month, Alcon Entertainment has announced that Barkhad Abdi has joined the film’s cast.

The Captain Phillips actor, who was nominated for an Oscar for his turn in that film, has joined Denis Villeneuve’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s iconic 1982 movie. As with the rest of the new faces, Abdi’s role in the film is being kept under wraps for now. He joins a cast that includes the returning Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard and new additions in the form of Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri and Dave Bautista.

At present, the Blade Runner sequel is set for an October 2017 release.
