Big Finish, who make full-cast audio drama for purchase on CD and/or download, have today announced that they will be making episodes of the classic TV series The Avengers. There will be three boxsets each of four episodes available from January 2014 and produced under license from STUDIOCANAL.

The twelve scripts are ‘lost episodes’ and introduce John Steed for the first time. Of the 26 episodes originally broadcast from 1961 only two still exist as complete film prints. Of the opening episode Hot Snow only the first act exists.

The scripts have been adapted by John Dorney, the director is Ken Bentley and David Richardson is the producer. The cast has yet to be revealed. Having earlier this year given us Jago & Litefoot in the 1960s and July giving us Counter Measures boxset 2, also set in the 1960s, it seems Big Finish has carved out a particular niche in this era.

Starburst will, of course, be following this story with interest.
