With The CW’s The Flash having already added Mirror Master to its rogues’ gallery for the show’s third season, now comes news on another longtime Flash foe joining the series.

As reported by E!, Awkward’s Ashley Rickards has been cast as The Top for Season 3 of the Grant Gustin-starrer. The interesting part here, though, is that, as longstanding comic book fans will be aware, this casting gives the villain a sex change.

The Top, aka Roscoe Dillon, is a rogue who debuted back in 1962. His main ability is that he can spin at such a ridiculous speed that he has even managed to alter his own mind, giving himself improved intelligence and even psionic abilities at one point in time.

In The Flash, this new take on The Top will be known as Rosalind “Rosa” Dillon, with it confirmed that the villain will make her debut alongside the aforementioned Mirror Master in the fourth episode of the new season. Rickards’ Top is described as the Bonnie to Mirror Master’s Clyde. As previously reported, Friday Night Lights’ Grey Damon will be playing Mirror Master in the show. The same episode that Top and Mirror Master debut in will also feature the return of Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold, meaning that three of the Scarlet Speedster’s most infamous rogues will all be turning up at once.

The Flash returns to US screens on October 4th, with a UK return to follow shortly after.
