Earlier this year saw rumblings that an EVIL DEAD TV series was in the works. Now comes confirmation that the series is indeed happening and that Bruce Campbell will be reprising the iconic role of Ashley James Williams. Starz has ordered 10 episodes of the series, titled ASH VS. EVIL DEAD. Campbell, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will be developing the show.

The official word on the series reads:

Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons – personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.

On the news, Sam Raimi said, “EVIL DEAD has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob, and I are all thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”

Bruce Campbell added, “I’m really excited to bring this series to the EVIL DEAD fans worldwide – it’s going to be everything they have been clamouring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humour.”

The trio of Raimi, Tapert and Campbell will executive produce the series, with Raimi also serving as director on the first episode. Raimi will again team with brother Ivan, as well as CHUCK’s Tom Spezialy, to pen the series.

Expect more on this as it develops.

Groovy.
