We’d heard that David Ramsey’s Diggle was getting his own hero costume in Season 4 of Arrow, and now here’s our first official look at Digg’s new duds.

Speaking to EW about the outfit, executive producer Marc Guggenheim said, “We try to be very consistent with our characterisation. I don’t think Diggle looks at it as a costume per se. Oliver, in the last season, gave him advice in terms of concealing his identity, and so Diggle approaches it from a very practical standpoint. He followed Oliver’s advice and he’s got a means of concealing his identity, but I think Diggle would probably react to anyone calling it a costume.”

As for the actual reveal of the don’t-call-it-a-costume, here’s The CW’s official look:

Many had previously hoped that Digg would eventually be revealed as being John Stewart Diggle, as in the Green Lantern character, and Ramsey himself had even talked up the idea previously, but that is seemingly not the direction that the character will be taking. When news of this all-black ensemble and helmet was revealed, some suggested that this could be Arrow’s take on DC’s Guardian, a comic book character who has ties to Roy Harper, “Wildcat” Ted Grant and The Atom – all characters who have appeared in the Emerald Archer-centric show.

The official word on Arrow’s fourth season reads:

After defeating his most formidable foe to date and riding off into the sunset with longtime flame Felicity Smoak, Oliver Queen (a.k.a. The Arrow) left Starling City with the hopes of beginning a new life. But will Oliver ever truly be able to leave behind his past as the Arrow, and, if so, what becomes of the team he has worked so hard to assemble? Will Diggle, Thea, and Laurel be left to continue Oliver’s crusade without him? And with Malcolm Merlyn having ascended to the top of the League of Assassins as the new Ra’s al Ghul, is anyone really safe?

Arrow returns to US screens on October 7th, with a UK return expected to follow shortly after.
