What exactly is going on with the Terminator franchise? After Terminator: Genisys disappointed and caused Paramount to scrap their plans for that film to be the start of a new trilogy, then came word that James Cameron will be getting the rights back and that he will be moving forward with a new batch of Terminator pictures. And now, Arnold Schwarzenegger has been discussing how he, too, isn’t done with the franchise just yet.

Speaking to Fandango, Das Arnold explained, “I’m looking forward to doing another Terminator movie, yes. I don’t want to call it, like, fake news, like the President calls it, but I think people write things – I have no idea why. Just because Paramount doesn’t want to pick up the Terminator franchise, you have 15 other studios willing to do it – that doesn’t mean the Terminator franchise is finished, right? It just means they are on their way to negotiate with another studio, but I can’t get you the details of that. They’ll announce that. But, yes, the Terminator franchise is never finished. And remember that after 2018, James Cameron is getting it back, and it will continue on.”

As per the recent stories of Cameron regaining control of the Terminator franchise, it was said that the iconic director would merely be producing this time out and that Deadpool helmer Tim Miller would be the man tasked with directing a new Terminator feature. Cameron, of course, created the whole franchise, putting together the original 1984 movie. While he wrote and directed that film, he sold the rights to producer/co-writer Gale Anne Hurd for just $1 so that he would be allowed to direct one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all-time. Cameron, much like Arnold Schwarzenegger, would indeed be back for the 1991 follow-up, Terminator 2: Judgment Day. That was the last direct involvement Cameron would have with the series, and it’s fair to say that the franchise has struggled in its subsequent outings.
