In news that won’t come as a surprise to anyone keeping up with 20th Century Fox’s Marvel movies, Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams have officially joined the upcoming New Mutants picture.

It’s long been reported that the pair were set for roles in Josh Boone’s film, and now that’s been confirmed. As per The Hollywood Reporter, and as previously rumoured, The Witch’s Taylor-Joy will be playing Magik, and Game of Thrones’ Williams has landed he role of Wolfsbane.

For the past year or more, the pair have been linked to New Mutants, with none of the parties ever playing down these rumours. Now, though, it’s finally been made official.

One previous story that’s not coming true, however, is that Nat Wolff will be playing Cannonball in the film. Much like Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams, Wolff had been long rumoured for the movie, but now his schedule means he’s unable to commit to the picture. Similarly, THR also believes that, despite previous suggestions, James McAvoy’s Professor X won’t be featured in New Mutants.

Joining Magik and Wolfsbane in the titular team will reportedly be Cannonball, Mirage and Sunspot, although the recent news that Sunspot will be a part of Deadpool 2 means the character’s involvement in New Mutants may be a little up in the air.

As for Magik and Wolfsbane, Magic is the sister of the X-Men’s Colossus and is a sorcerer who can teleport, whilst Wolfsbane is a Scottish mutant who has the ability to turn into an actual wolf.

At present, New Mutants is set for an April 13th, 2018 release.
