With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 now out over here in the UK (you can find our review here), director James Gunn has been discussing what could happen down the line if we were to ever get a fourth Guardians movie.

It’s been long confirmed that we’ll definitely be getting a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with it more recently revealed that Gunn will indeed be back to tackle that threequel. Now, though, the hugely talented writer/director has been asked by The Toronto Sun about the chances of a Guardians 4.

Gunn responded, “I think the first three movies tell a single story and that story is pretty simple. I think that there could be a Guardians Vol. 4, but it would not be the same. It would not be the same group. Basically, the story of this group ends with Vol. 3.”

That means that should a fourth film come along, don’t be expecting to see Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot front-and-centre as the action unfolds. And we guess that also applies for the likes of Mantis, Yondu, and Nebula.

Of course, this likely doesn’t come as a major surprise to any longtime comic book fans, for the comic book Guardians team are one of those groups that has had a revolving roster of members over the years.

As well as the aforementioned Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Star-Lord and Co. will also be present when Thanos steps out of the shadows and battles Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in next May’s Avengers: Infinity War.
