The upcoming Annabelle sequel has been given a new title. From this day forward, Annabelle 2 will be formally known as *drumroll* Annabelle: Creation.

Given that new subtitle, we’re going out on a limb and guessing that the movie will indeed serve as some sort of tragic origin story for the Annabelle character/doll. But then, we’d kind of already guessed that based on some of the earlier plot details that have come out over the past few months.

What we know so far about Annabelle: Creation is that it will focus on a dollmaker and his wife whose daughter has died several years prior. When a nun and several girls from an orphanage turn up on their doorstep, they soon become targeted by the dollmaker’s possessed doll… Annabelle. With Corin Hardy’s other Conjuring spinoff, The Nun, recently having gone into pre-production, there’s actually talk that the nun featured in Annabelle: Creation and The Nun are one and the same.

To be directed by David F. Sandberg, the man behind the last year’s impressive Lights Out, and starring Miranda Otto, Anthony LaPaglia, Stephanie Sigman, Alicia Vela-Bailey, Javier Botet, Talitha Bateman and Lulu Wilson, Annabelle: Creation is currently set for an August 11th release.
